The Theorbo has many names due to its popularity in many countries. Primarily a continuo instrument, but also a great solo instrument in the right hands.

The 5-Course guitar was known as ‘La Guitarra Espanola’ due its popularity in Spain, Iberia.
Renaissance Lute
The Lute was immensely popular from the 1400’s - 1600’s, accompanying ballad tunes, madrigals, other lutes, or solo polyphony.
Renaissance Guitar
The 4-course guitar was a popular bardic instrument that became known as ‘La Guitarra Napolitana’. One sailor took it with him on a journey before getting lost on an island and earned the nick-name ‘The Jumping Flea’ which in the original language was Ukulele.
